RMP Study Guide / Reference Book

This article introduces the PMI-RMP exam prep books that i used to pass the PMI-RMP exam. Highly recommended for PMI-RMP certification aspirants, considering i passed the PMI-RMP exam from my first attempt.

Reference one: Must use

Risk Management Tricks of the trade for Project Managers and PMI-RMP Exam Prep Guide , 2nd Edition by Rita Mulcahy .

If you ever want to pass the PMI-RMP® exam (Risk Management Professional) exam, this is the book i would recommend you to get! The content of this guide is structured based on the version (PMBOK guide 5th edition) and was written by one of the most accomplished trainers in PMI-RMP exam, the PMI RMP exam is not updated yet as per the PMBOK 6th edition yet, therefor still you need to follow the PMBOK 5th edition to pass the exam.

This PMI-RMP study guide tries to re-organize the RMP® exam syllabus in an structured way to help self-study readers to reach RMP certification success. The RMP exam syllabus itself just describes the knowledge and terms required for the students to learn and understand in order to pass the exam. However, chapters are arranged according to the PMBOK guide 5th edition of the six risk management processes, the major guide chapters are: Risk management concepts, introduction to risk management, Plan risk management process, Identify project risks process, Perform qualitative risk analysis process, Perform quantitative risk analysis process, Plan risk responses, Monitor risks and the last chapter about risk governance for organizations.

My learning experience with this guide

This book definitely helped me to understand the topics in PMI-RMP® as well as form a mental picture of the risk management processes. As I read the text, I make my own PMI RMP exam study notes which is to be used just before my PMI RMP® exam as a last minute revision notes. In total, I spent about three weeks reading the this study guide and making my notes, about one hour a weekday and five hours on weekend days.

The Standard for Risk Management in Portfolios, Programs, and Projects

TThis is an update and expansion upon PMI’s popular reference, The Practice Standard for Project Risk Management. Risk Management addresses the fact that certain events or conditions may occur with impacts on project, program, and portfolio objectives. This standard will: identify the core principles for risk management; describe the fundamentals of risk management and the environment within which it is carried out; define the risk management life cycle; and apply risk management principles to the portfolio, program, and project domains within the context of an enterprise risk management approach It is primarily written for portfolio, program, and project managers, but is a useful tool for leaders and business consumers of risk management, and other stakeholders.

A 175 pages supportive document, going through the principles and concepts of the risk management, then moving through the six risk management processes with deep explanation of the tools and techniques used in each process.

My learning experience with this guide

This book definitely helps me to understand the topics in PMI-RMP® as well as form a mental picture of the risk management processes, this standard guide is very important in regards of the advanced tools and techniques used in risk management, as I read the text, I make my own PMI-RMP exam study notes which is to be used just before my PMI-RMP® exam as a last minute revision notes. In total, I spent about one week reading the this study guide and making my notes, about one hour a weekday and three hours on weekends, this guide helped me answer all questions about the tools used in identify risks process and quantitative risk analysis.

The Project Management Institute (PMI) is a US nonprofit professional organization for project management. The PMI provides services including the development of standards, research, education, publication, networking-opportunities in local chapters, hosting conferences and training seminars, and providing accreditation in project management.

PMI has recruited volunteers to create industry standards, such as “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge”, which has been recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In 2012 ISO adapted the project management processes from the PMBOK Guide 6th edition.

Reference three: Must use

PMP Exam Prep: Accelerated Learning to Pass the Project Management Professional (PMP) Exam 8th Edition by Rita Mulcahy.

Needed chapters of this book: Project management frame work, cost management (EVM), risk Management, communications management, procurement management (Contracts), and stakeholders management.

This book was made for the PMP® exam (Project Management Professional) exam preparation, Still the PMI-RMP exam needs your knowledge in the project management field in general, this is the book I would recommend you to get!

Chapters are arranged according to the PMBOK guide 6th edition knowledge areas, the major guide chapters are: Project management framework, integration management, scope management, schedule management, cost management, quality management, resources management, communications management, procurement management, stakeholders management, and professional responsibility.

This book definitely helps me to practice the PMI RMP exam questions before I went to the real exam! the major benefit of practicing 300 questions that you will be able to finish the 170 exam questions in 3 hours 30 minutes, finishing the real exam questions within the 3 hours 30 minutes time frame is one of the challenges to pass the PMI RMP exam from the first trial, it’s highly recommended to use this book once you are done with the 30 contact hours and reference books , once you are done with this book , it is recommended as well to test yourself by practicing some timely tested PMI RMP exam questions here!
