Participants are granted three chances to pass the CAPM® exam in one year. No. PMI® does not mandate any expiry timeline for contact hours earned to qualify for the CAPM® Exam if you retain the proof (certificate). There is no deadline or expiry date, though the contact hours must have been acquired before the submission of the application to PMI®. For example, if you earn the contact hours in 2020, there is nothing stopping you from taking the exam in 2023.

The CAPM certificate is valid for three years. To maintain your certification, you need to achieve 15 Professional Development Units (PDUs) in a 3-year cycle.

First, you need to check whether you are eligible to take the CAPM certification exam. To sit for the exam, you must meet the following CAPM requirements: Have a secondary degree, such as a high school diploma, GED (general educational development), or global equivalent. Have at least 23 contact hours of project management education completed before the exam (PMI’s online Project Management Basics course can help fulfill this requirement).
